You should be aware of a new California state law AB379, signed by Governor Newsom, which takes effect in January 2026.
This is just before Superbowl LX in Santa Clara in February 2026. And will also be in effect for FIFA World Cup games in both San Jose and Los Angeles in June 2026.
We know that Homeland Security partners with local law enforcement agencies at these large sporting events to conduct supposed ‘sex trafficking’ operations which are really just old-fashioned prostitution sting raids trying to ensnare people engaging in consensual commercial sex.
AB379 introduces a new offense – “loitering in any public place with the intent to purchase commercial sex”. Loitering laws have always been used to target people of color, gender non conforming people, and more than ever the immigrant community. And a conviction under AB379 is a deportable crime!
AB379’s vague language allows law enforcement, including Homeland Security and ICE, to weaponize it based solely on an officer’s determination of ‘intent’ of anyone near ‘commercial sex’. That could easily mean someone waiting outside or entering a legal business like a strip club or spa.
